When she came to our household, she fulfilled the wish for a much needed daughter. She was calm and gentle, just the way most girls naturally are, as opposed to my rambunctious boy. My friend Susan, had found her abandoned and we decided to adopt her into our family. She was only about three months old at that time. Her name underwent a transition from Minosh ( the Turkish name that Susan had given her) to Mini, and she was finally christened as Missy, or so we thought. She completed our family of four - My husband, Max, Missy and I. Yes, I am talking about my grey tabby cat.
As she started growing and we began thinking about spaying her, to prevent more stray kittens, my husband Tridib, told me a number of times that, Missy was really male. He even flipped her a couple times to make his point to me. But I vehemently ignored every time. I argued that Mike, Susan's husband, had a cat for ages and we had every reason to believe what he said. So, after a few months, Tridib dropped Missy at the animal hospital to get her spayed. He filled in the form with her name, gender, etc. After a while, he called me and said that a hospital staffer had called him, and this is what the lady told him in a very nice tone ," We did a physical exam on Missy, and for your information, Missy is not a girl, Missy is a boy".
My mother daughter relationship with Missy was ruined in an instant. Susan and I scrambled through google pages to find an appropriate name that the hospital could put in the certificate. They laughed when I called them about the name change. That's how the mighty Mitch came into existence. I lost my dear daughter but I found a very gentle, calm and obedient son :)
